Adam has already spent two seasons working as a trainee instructor at the centre and has already displayed the potential to work in this industry.

Shortly we will be welcoming the first schools that will benefit from this additional facility at the centre.

The RLSS Qualification is being held at  Morfa Bay Adventure from Mon 23rd – Fri 27th Jan 2012.

We will be welcoming back course co-ordinator John Sager from Lifeguard and Rescue International Training for the sixth year running.

The NBLQ Includes:

• Beach Lifeguard theory – Teaching of the theories and practices of Beach Lifeguarding, most of which relates to the primary role of a lifeguard in preventing incidents.
• Open Water rescue skills – candidates will gain experience using a range of equipment to perform simulated rescues in the sea, including the torpedo buoy and a range of rescue boards.
• Life Support – candidates will receive thorough training in resuscitation techniques for adults, children and babies up to Life Support 3, RLSS UK’s highest life support award. Candidates can also be trained in Extended Life Support which is the use of Automated External Defibrillators and oxygen therapy.
• First Aid – Candidates will also be trained in First Aid and many go on to complete the HSE First Aid at Work, which is a valuable qualification recognised by all employers.

Throughout February & half term

Gwyndaf Jenkins, lead sports co-ordinator for the group thoroughly enjoyed the day and was pleased with the aptitude, behaviour and dedication of the group in completing what was a tough and challenging course.

Demonstration of basic skills and maintenance begun the day and after a safety brief the group tackled the ascent of the wall.

Introducing skill and fitness elements as the day went on prepared the group for the technical adrenaline pumping descent to the finish.

The group had been to the Centre in the summer and had completed Morfa Bay’s own purpose built course and had been introduced to the basic requirements of tackling a more formidable forest trail.

Lucky with the weather the group enjoyed fantastic scenery throughout the day. Let’s hope we get out to this beautiful part of our country very soon.

Once completed the venue will consist of a storage unit, an all weather session shelter, woodland and fresh water stream. It is hoped under the specialist guidance of Head Instructor Andy Booth, Bushcraft will become a popular activity choice amongst the schools, as it will allow for further learning outside of the classroom and access to all.

The plan is to then to convert the current male toilets/changing area into a new kit store and relocate a new drying room once planning permission has been allowed.
